Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Chair Bipul Pokhrel has described the National News Agency (RSS) as ‘eyes’ of the government and the people and said it is expected to carry out its role accordingly. Talking to RSS in brief following the inauguration of a RSS new building amidst a special function at its central office today, he said RSS should act as a supporting tool for the government to understand people’s voices, interests and needs while it is at the same time responsible for making the public aware of government policies and programmes. He also advised the National News Agency to prove itself as the voice of all sections of citizens. Expressing his happiness over the completion of a new building of the RSS, he urged the RSS to amplify its voices for the case of working journalists and ensure a decent working atmosphere for its employees. Similarly, Advertisement Board chair Laxman Humagain said the RSS is benchmark for authentic news and its impartiality and neutrality is beyond the question. As he said, RSS should transform itself along with the changing contexts and the development of technology. Professor Mohan Bikram Thapa wished the RSS that it could be more serious over the free and impartial news reports, giving priority to the issues of every nook and corner of the country. —rss
